TRACE YOUR OWN FAMILY’S HISTORY!
In this Directed Study course, you will have the opportunity to use the internet and newly available genealogical resources to learn about your own family’s history. It will prepare you to do oral history interviews with your family members. It will help you connect your own family’s story with international, national, and local events. You will produce a family website or a memoir telling your family’s story.
Students will:
- analyze family history documents such as photographs
- prepare a family tree
- conduct an oral history interview
- become familiar with major genealogy websites or visit a genealogical collection such
as the Burton Historical Collection at the Detroit Public Library
- prepare a family history time-line
- obtain and analyze records such as census reports
- and present their findings to each other
This will be an online course with three one-hour meetings, on Monday evenings at 0020 Manoogian
