Extra Meetings and Computer Chat

This web page will collect your votes for extra meetings for (a) learning how to make web pages, for (b)  face-to-face discussions, (c) social get-togethers (breakfast or lunch), and for (d) online chats. Personally, I would like to do all of a through c on one day, with perhaps a second social day, but I am certainly willing to take two or three days. My idea, if people vote for all sessions, would be: (a) Web Page Tutorial 9 - 11 AM, (b) Class discussion 11 - 1, (c) Lunch 1 - ???.

My idea for the computer chats is that they would be on a regular day and time, or a drop-in basis.

None of these sessions would be required. Bear in mind that we have a required face-to-face class meeting on April 21.

  1. Name
  2. Web Page tutorial. Estimated time, two hours on a Saturday morning.
    1. Which software would you prefer to learn? If you have Netscape installed on your computer, you probably already have Netscape Composer, which can make web pages at no extra cost. You can also use MS Word to make web pages. Finally, the most productive software that I know how to use is MS Frontpage, which costs about $100 for WSU students. All three are already installed in the 113 Rackham lab, so you would not need to buy or install any software before the web page session. In two hours we could make good progress on creating "static" or non-interactive web pages, with text, colors, fonts, images and links. We would not be able to cover interactive web pages similar to this one, in which the user sends in information by making choices.

  3. Face-to-face discussion.

  4. Breakfast or lunch (lunch if we are doing something else that day, otherwise breakfast or lunch)
IV. Dates. Please make a choice for each of these dates.
