Agenda 1 Update
Times' Harvest / Winter 2001
Saturday, January 13

Although I feel that I was clear the first time, this update has been changed to show more clearly that the required postings for this week should be made as responses to existing topics.

I am assigning a total of four postings on special topics as part of the first week's work. These are:

  1. (previously assigned) A response to the topic, "Introduce Yourself!" Reminder: Do not put anything in here that you do not want the other class members to know! This assignment is not about making a fool of yourself. This message does not count in the required number of substantive postings for the semester.
  2. (previously assigned) A substantive response to the topic "First responses to readings..." based on your first reading in one of the course textbooks. If you cannot find The Third Wave or The Road Ahead in time for this assignment, then read a little in one of the others and post on that. This posting does count in the required number of substantive postings for the semester.
  3. (new) A response to the topic, "Taking an online course is different because..." In this message you should quote exactly (hint - start two copies of your web browser and then use copy and paste) from the page on "Taking an Online Course" or from the page on "Online Citizenship", and give some advice to yourself and the class members. This message does not count in the required number of substantive postings for the semester.
  4. (new) A response to the topic "Changes I have seen..." Describe two general changes that have taken place during your lifetime. By "general" I do not mean changes that are a general part of growing up, such as (for guys), "I and all my friends got interested in girls." Rather something that is new, such as, "What about all of those pagers and cell phones?" One of the changes should be a change in technology or "things" such as the development and popularity of the SUV. The other change should be about a change in society or the way people act with each other, such as something about road rage. This posting does count in the required number of substantive postings for the semester.

Reminder: 5% of the course grade (the difference, say, between an A and an A-) is based on completing the work assigned for the first week during the first week. This part of the grade cannot be made up later.
