Link back to course Welcome...
Turning work in electronically is part of this course. There are several possible methods. You should choose the best one available to you, and test that it works, BEFORE ANY WORK IS ACTUALLY DUE!!! To test that a method works, try submitting a test to me.
Please note: I am not asking you to be able to use all of these methods -- pick one.
Here are the methods. Make sure to e-mail or call me if you have questions.
1. The best method is to create your work in a word-processing file and attach the file to an e-mail message to me. This is best because (a) it comes through formatted just as you want it, and (b) I can get the graded copy back to you electronically.
The method that you use to attach a file depends upon the e-mail software that you are using. "Eudora" is popular. To attach a file to an e-mail message using Eudora, write a "cover message" saying that you are turning in assignment so-and-so, and then pick the Message / Attach File menu item (this means, first choose the Message menu item, and then within that the Attach Message item on the pull-down menu list). You will then be asked to choose the file to attach using a normal file dialog, going though the folders and files.
In your e-mail message, please tell me what word-processing program (name and version) you are using. In Windows, get this information from the Help / About menu item.
2. The second-best method is to create your work in a word-processing file, and save it in a "text only" format using File / Save As... and then choosing a text-only format, also sometimes called ASCII or DOS text. Then insert this text file into your e-mail message, making it a part of the message, instead of an attachment to the message as in #1. This is not quite as good, because you will loose all formatting from your work (font, underlining, sub- or super-script, bold, etc.), but I will be able to return it electronically.
There are two possible methods for inserting the text file into the body of your e-mail message. The easiest is that, if your e-mail program has an "insert file" menu item somewhere, to use that to insert the text. You would see a dialog box to navigate to the file.
The second method for inserting your text file into the body of your e-mail message is to open the file in your word-processing program, select all of the text, copy it to the ClipBoard, then go to your e-mail program, and paste the text from the clipboard into the body of your e-mail message.
3. If you do not know how to attach files using your e-mail, program, you can use Netscape (or other Web Browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer. First create your work in a word-processing file.
You must first choose Options / Mail and News Preferences and set up a return e-mail address. Wherever it asks you for a Server (SMTP, POP or other Server), enter mail.wayne.edu, and wherever it asks you for a UserID or User Name or e-mail account, enter your new WSU e-mail UserID. If you are using another e-mail system, such as AOL, enter that e-mail server (the part of your e-mail address to the right of the "@" and your User ID (the part ofyour e-mail address to the left of the "@). instead. (If for some reason you do not have your WSU e-mail account, use cll.wayne.edu for the e-mail server and webserver for the User ID. However, with this option, I will not be able to return work to you via e-mail. Also, with this methond, the e-mail will not have your name on it, so be careful that your name is in the body of your e-mail message.)
Then you can send e-mail by choosing the Window / Mail menu item (it says Netscape Mail if you are using Netscape). If you are asked for a password, click "Cancel" (password only required to receive e-mail, not to send e-mail. Put in my e-mail address as the TO address, and put in a subject, then put your name and address in the body of the message. Also include the word processor that you are using (name and version); see #1 for how to get this information in Windows. Now attach the file with your work as in #1 above.
