Word Processing: Text and Format Modifications to an Existing Document
Frank's Announcement

Copy the file C:\STUDENTS\SCTN571\ANNOUNCE.WPS to your floppy diskette. In Windows Explorer, highlight the file copy on your floppy diskette and use the File / Rename menu item to rename the file ANNOUNC2.WPS. Then make another copy of the file from the C: drive to your floppy diskette. The renamed file copy will be your backup copy, in case you make a lot of mistakes below and want to start over again.

In Microsoft Works, open the file ANNOUNCE.WPS (the copy on the floppy diskette). Save the file back to your floppy diskette under the name FAXXXNNN.WPS, where XXX are your initials and NNN are the last three digits of the section number for GST2710 (see top of directions). Make the modifications below to the file. Do not include these directions in your file.

  1. Center the entire document.
  2. Change the first line to Arial 36 point, Bold.
  3. Put line breaks (<Return>) before and after the "and" in the first line.
  4. Change the line beginning "Speciailizing..." to Arial 20 point.
  5. Change the word "Announces" to Times New Roman 18 point.
  6. Change the line beginning "A Grand Opening..." to ColonnaMT (if available) or to Courier New, 20 point in either case.
  7. Place a blank line and then today's date below the line beginning "A Grand Opening..."
  8. Place a blank line between the date and the address.
  9. Change the address to Times New Roman 20 point, Bold.
  10. Delete the date underneath the address.
  11. Insert blank lines evenly throughout the document to center the document vertically, and so that it takes up at least 50% of the page vertically. Use Print Preview to set up this spacing.
  12. Spellcheck the document.
  13. Place your name, section number and date into the Header of the document. See MS Works Step by Step Pg 42 for help in making a Header.
  14. Print out and turn in a copy of the final document.
