As the CLL Student Senate winds down for the 2001/2002 year, I want to share our accomplishments. with all of you

Last March, at the invitation of Howard Finley, we came together to discuss the possibility of reactivating the CLL Student Senate. As a group of busy but energetic working adults, we decided to get the Senate back up and running with realistic goals and an equal distribution of work. I am proud to say that we have accomplished these goals and more.

By this May we will have conducted thirteen CLL Student Senate meetings, each one productive and fun. We were able to secure a $3,500 budget from the WSU Student Council as well as have a CLL representative at the larger WSU Student Council monthly meetings. We developed a web site exclusively for the CLL Student Senate and have kept it updated on a regular basis (www.cll.wayne.edu/isp/stusen). In addition, we created colorful contact cards so that the Student Senate could be easily accessible to fellow students. We reactivated the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society, and in December 2001 we inducted more than forty students. Because of our active status within the national organization of Alpha Sigma Lambda, we are now able to offer both national and local scholarships to our students. We represented CLL/ISP at many university functions such as Homecoming 2001 and the 2001 Festival of Arts. On April 9th we are offering a fun activity for our students, staff and faculty entitled “True Colors: A fun way to understand your own personality as well as friends, family and colleagues. We hope you will join us for an enjoyable evening (see flyer on web site at www.cll.wayne.edu/isp/stusen/events).

One of our proudest moments this year occurred when we represented the concerns of our students over the disposition of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program to Provost Bantz. The synergy at the meeting with the Provost was proof that the ISP is as beloved by its students as it is by its faculty and staff.

And finally, we could not claim success without noting the active participation of our Advisor Ruthie Flowers, Howard Finley, Stuart Henry and Roz Schindler. Their regular attendance and participation in meetings as well as the willingness to listen and act on our concerns is what empowered us to do great things.
