In 1991 Elizabeth was appointed Assistant Professor of Research at the Institute of Gerontology where her research has focused on the American Indian Elder population with whom she has worked closely for over twelve years. She has obtained several research grants in this field and published scholarly works on long-term care among Native Americans, and depression among elderly Native Americans in: Journal of Mental Health & Aging (2000) and Journal of Cross Cultural Gerontology (2000). In 2001 she was promoted to Associate Professor.
In January 2000 she was appointed in Interdisciplinary Studies to coordinate the NPSS program and to teach two interdisciplinary gerontology courses (ISP 7998 and ISP 7999) that are required for the Graduate Certificate in Gerontology as well as the NPSS 4500 Internship/Leadership course for the NPSS Program.
